Basketball – NBA: Suns secure first place in Western Conference – Sports

Denver (AP) – Chris Paul returned to the NBA and won with the Phoenix Suns against the Denver Nuggets. The number one in the best basketball league in the world won 140:13 away and can no longer be intercepted in the Western Conference.

Paul had 17 points, 13 assists and four rebounds after five weeks with a broken thumb. However, the highlight of the night was his teammate Devin Booker with 49 points. In contrast, Nikola Jokic’s 28 points also dropped. Last season’s most valuable player, the Nuggets in the Western Conference are still on the borderline between safe playoff participation and qualification.

Ticket to the Grizzlies Playoffs

The Memphis Grizzlies secured the playoff ticket with 133:103 at the Indiana Pacers. The team again had to do without Ja Morant, who will likely only be available again just before the playoffs due to knee problems.

In the Eastern Conference, defending champions Milwaukee Bucks closed the gap to leaders Miami Heat. The Bucks beat the Washington Wizards 114-102 and are just a little behind the Heat. The Chicago Bulls, meanwhile, lost 109-126 to the New Orleans Pelicans, putting pressure on the table.

In all, 16 teams are in the playoffs. The top six teams from each of the Eastern and Western Conferences are guaranteed tickets. In places seven through ten, teams from each conference compete for a mini-qualification for the other two places. The NBA main round ends in mid-April.
