NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal opened up about his divorce in a podcast. “Everything depended on me,” admitted the former basketball player.
Basketball star Shaquille O’Neal (50) and his wife Shaunie O’Neal (47) divorced in 2011. Now the NBA legend has spoken on “The Pivot Podcast” among other things about their failed relationship. “I’ve never talked about it and I’m glad you guys asked because I don’t mind talking about it,” O’Neal said. “But I was bad, she was fantastic. She really was. It was all on me.” He didn’t protect her and he didn’t keep the marriage vows.
Shaquille O’Neal talks about a “double life”
The former high-profile athlete continued: “Sometimes you live a double life and it gets you. I’ll never blame you. It was all me.” His ex-wife did exactly what was expected of her: “She gave me beautiful children, took care of the house and business things.” She did everything just for him. “Sometimes when you make so many mistakes, you can’t recover from them.” The 50-year-old now knows he was wrong and doesn’t want to justify anything.
Shaunie O’Neal confirmed her engagement to Pastor Keion Henderson to People Magazine late last year. “She’s happy now,” O’Neal explained on the podcast. “She’s about to marry a nice guy and I’m happy for her.”
Shaquille O’Neal and Shaunie were married in 2002 and separated in 2007. In 2009, his current ex-wife finally filed for divorce, which became final two years later. The two have four children together.
